This image was taken at Belton Lake (BLORA) in Texas. My family and I decided to take a hike in the woods that day. It was a bit hot, but we took plenty of water. Our daughter was very little and it was slow going over the rocky terrain mixed with roots of the many cypress trees along the paths. I didn’t have much time to take any photos of myself. I was having to keep up with my daughter and keep an eye on my son. This is not my favorite photo, but that was a fun day. I loved seeing my children enjoying nature and really seeing them take an interest in it. My Mom took us out in the woods at an early age and it really fostered a love of nature. I’m happy to pass that on to my kids.

“The woods were made for the hunters of dreams,
The brooks for the fishers of song;
To the hunters who hunt for the gunless game
The streams and the woods belong.”
~Sam Walter Foss

One hundred and forty-eight

 My son and I went to the BLORA Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt on Belton Lake in Belton, Texas. We had walked around and did some of the activities and as we were waiting for the sun to go down, so the egg hunt could start, we walked over to the lake. My son loves nothing more than throwing rocks in the water and it was a lovely evening other than the bugs. Here I am standing with the lake to my back, the sunset to my front and if you look closely you can see my son in the background looking for rocks. I like this photo, the sunset gave a lovely light on my face. I love being near the water, it is soothing and somehow always make me at peace.

  “Every time we walk along a beach some ancient urge disturbs us so that we find ourselves shedding shoes and garments or scavenging among seaweed and whitened timbers like the homesick refugees of a long war.” ~Loren Eiseley
