These two shots were taken at the same time. Man, I needed a hair cut and some conditioner. I’m not very found of either one of these photos. They both pretty much blow toes. Both were taken while on a walk with my kiddos. My daughter got hurt or was crying about something and that is how 305 came to be. I love that quote. The quote that goes with 306 is kind of funny considering how terrible my hair looks. Must have been a bad hair day.

Another group of random photos. 286: Winter time! The first ice of the season. 287: Sleep, I am one of those people that needs a decent amount of sleep to make it through the day, 7-8 hours at least! 288: I love this shot! I like the contrast, composition and how my hair looks. 289: I really like this one as well. Perhaps because it was winter this one turned out looking like ice.

Three more very random shots. 281 I was sitting at my dinning room table very bored. 282: sitting on the couch relaxing. Sometimes my hair will make a large tangled looking curl and that is what I was photographing. I like that shot. I find it to be interesting. 283: just a random close-up. For some reason this one reminds me of a fish bowl. Perhaps it’s the curve of my glasses or face, but I seem to be inside a fish bowl.

My husband bought me these amethyst earrings for Christmas that year. I was attempting to take some photos of them and this is what I got. I like the black and white one, the color one is ok too.  The black and white one is interesting to me. Sometimes you have a specific idea of what you think you look like and then something comes along and makes you realize you have no idea what you really look like. The more photos I took of myself for this project the more I realized I look very much like a cousin of mine.  I previously thought we couldn’t have been more different. Perception is very interesting to me.

All four of these shots where taken with my crappy cell phone. The first one was at my parent’s house. The other three were in different bathrooms, haha. The only one I like is 247. I really like the water on the mirror and how it distorts my reflection. Other than that these photos SUCK!

Both of these shots were taken at the same time. It was right after I got a hair cut. I stood next to the sliding glass door to get good lighting and took many shots. I liked how they both came out. Sometimes I get a wild hair and want to create a digital manipulation. For the second one I used an old photo that was from another project I use to do A Photo a Day. It was one of the first photos I did for that project back in 2008. I have included the original as well. I layered them on top of each other and played around with transparency, layer effects and coloring. I really enjoy both of these photos. I think that was a good hair cut. It was nice to reuse a photo that I always liked anyway.

81808 A Photo a Day: 8/18/08

All of these shots are from the same shoot. As I went along with this project I found that I used many of the same techniques, always trying to get a different result. Sometimes it was successful, other times not. This particular technique, used in the first two images, is something I came across just playing around with my camera. On my Nikon D50 there is a shutter speed setting called bulb. This setting allows you to hold the shutter open as long as you are holding down the shutter release button. I discovered early on that I can use the flash with this setting and the flash will only go off as I let go of the shutter release. It creates a ghostly effect when taking a photo of something or someone moving and can really make the colors a bit crazy. I really like using this technique as the result is something a bit abstract, which I enjoy. The first image is obviously two images put together and made into bw. The second is the true colors that were created, just enhanced the saturation. The third image was not using the bulb setting, just a low shutter speed. The fourth image is a more straight image playing around with perspective. Looking at these four together really gives you a sense of what can be produced from the same sitting. A wide variety, for the good or the bad.

One hundred & twelve & thirteen

Both of these photographs were inspired by just looking down. One day I was wearing this necklace, it’s a heathergem. I bought it at a celtic fest a few years back. It is made with old, dried up heather stems. They dye them, compress them, slice it up, polish them and add them to jewelry settings. They are fantastic! Check it out! The next day I was wearing that shirt. My Mom sent it to me and it’s one of my new favs. I don’t get to wear shirts with buttons very often; having a large bosom can be a hinderance too. However, I can wear this shirt, I enjoy the buttons and the color. Overall I am pleased with these two shots. They are simple and elegant.

This day I had my new studio lamp out. I was taking photographs of my bottle cap coasters so that I could put them up for sale in my Etsy shop.  So I figured, what the heck, might as well knock out my photo for the day as well. I love this one. It is simple, the lighting looks nice, the blinds break-up the background and my hair looks damn good, regardless of how badly it needs a cut.

“Curiouser and curiouser.” ~Lewis Carroll

Until I was about 18 or 20 I hated my hair. Other people liked it, I always was praised for it, but I couldn’t stand it. I finally figured out how to control it around that time; which is basically don’t do anything to it. I wash it, sometimes use conditioner, and ONLY brush it when it is WET, NEVER DRY! Ever since then I’ve been ok with my hair, sometimes I actually love it too. It has been growing without a cut since last summer sometime. I’m ready for a trim, but haven’t found the time or money to go get it done.

This shot I was actually  trying to photograph my feet, but my long hair keep getting in the way. So, I decided to switch subject matter. My camera is to my eye. My hair is flipped over my head and falling over the top of the camera. Viola! That’s the ticket! I like this photo. My curls were nice that day, the color is rich and lovely and the light spreading from the bottom to the top helps create a nice light to dark ratio.
