I love these photos! I love black and white, even if they are just crappy iPhone photos. These were taken while we were living in a tiny little apartment. There was a lot of negativity in that place, but there were also good times. I feel like these photos reflect both of those aspects of living in that space and environment. 313: I am looking out the window, pondering our situation. Thinking on friends that I had been reunited with only to find out they hadn’t changed over the years, and not in a good way. I really love this photo. For one thing it was a good hair day, haha. I also like the composition, the bit of bricks seen out the door and the light and shadows. They create just the right balance through out the image. 314: a diptych taken the same day as 313. It must have been the weekend. I was just playing with my kiddos, enjoying being with them. That is hard to remember since it is now summer time and they are driving me crazy. 😛 But I digress. I got to a point were I was taking so many photos trying to get a decent one that I would end up with more than one that I liked. That is why so many of these toward the end of this project ended up as diptychs and there might even be a triptych in there somewhere. They are more interesting anyway.

Three hundred and two

I love these photos, especially together. Children do not stay little very long. When these photos were taken my daughter was so small. Now she is 3 going on 4 and the size of a kindergartener. I love having fun with my kids and I think these photos show just how ridiculous I am willing to go to make them laugh.

I love this photo! It was my daughter’s 2nd birthday and she wanted to make chocolate chip cookies, so we did. 🙂 It was late and my kids were already in their pjs. I love that my son photo bombed us with that silly face. That smile on my face is genuine, it was a happy moment.

Life can be a Whirlwind

Blogging looks like it will be taking a break for a bit. I just started back at VCU. I’m taking 3 classes, but 2 are 400 level and 1 includes a teaching practicum. I am also preparing for the class I will start teaching in 3 weeks. On top of that my husband is also going to school full time, we have a 2 year old and our 8 year old is starting the 3rd grade next week. This weekend we are going to Indiana to visit family. When it rains it pours and right now I am overloaded with stuff to do. Not that I am complaining, I love having stuff to do, but because of that I may not be blogging as frequently as I was. I am very grateful to all my followers, there are over 100 of you now! Thanks to all who read, like and comment! I will be back when I can! Hope everyone is well!

As a little treat here are some photos from my 1st 2 days back at school. Enjoy!

I might be done with my 365 project, but I haven’t stopped taking self-portraits. Me walking by Monroe Park on Campus.

Two hundred and sixteen

This day I took my kids to one of my favorite places in the world. A lovely park in Enon, Virginia that recently was renamed, but the new name means nothing to me because it will always be Point of Rocks Park. I have been going there since I was seven. It was very close to all the houses I lived in through most of my life. I have good memory after good memory of it. It is even where my husband proposed to me under a moonlit sky. This was a hot summer day, but we packed some water bottles and headed out for a hike through the trails and marsh walk. It was a lovely day and my not quite 2 year old daughter did really great. She kept up with us even though her little legs got tired and I had to carry her some. This is us sitting on an overlook toward the end of the hike. Love my family, and love this day.

I hate this shot. My hair is a total mess! This was one of those shots were I was really somewhere cool and could have gotten a way better shot. It could have been creative and awesome, but I was having to keep up with a my little daughter and stay with my family. So, instead I just tried to get a shot, any shot and this was what I got. My parents, children, my nephew and I all went to the Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights, Virginia. It is a huge warehouse type building filled with repainted and super clean tractors from every make, model, brand and year. They also have tons of other cool old stuff, bottles, tools, bikes, cars, trucks, signs and the like. It was an awesome place to explore. We were the only people there that day and had free run of the place. The kids loved it!

Both of these shots were taken on our drive/move back to Virginia from Texas. My Mom flew down so that she could drive back with the kids and I, since my husband had to stay a few months longer. It was a pretty nice trip. We stopped in Arkansas and saw some old friends and another friend in Tennessee. It was nice to take a different route back other than the lower southern states. I got to go through many places I had never been to before. Both of these shots were taken with the point and shoot Nikon. They are both pretty bad quality, but once again capture moments in time. The first one was taken outside the Jonesboro, AR Cracker Barrel while waiting for my friends to show up for a goodbye breakfast. You can see my Mom and daughter in the background playing checkers, sitting in rocking chairs. The second one was taken in the gorgeous mountains of Tennessee. We had to stop for a poopy diaper change. The sun was going down and I attempted to get a photo of the mountains and changing sky, but the light was too low. It was such a poor image I changed it to black and white to try and salvage it. I added some other photos from the trip, also taken with the point and shoot.

All three of these shots were taken with my son’s point and shoot Nikon. The first one was a hair shot. I attempted to make it cool by changing the color, but it still sucks. I think the second one would be alright if it wasn’t so grainy. The third one isn’t very good either, but I like it because it has my kids in it. I’m not bias or anything. 😛

This shot was fun. I don’t really remember what possessed me to take this shot, but I remember putting my camera with attached flash and reflector on a chair facing up. I have these sample pieces of colored cellophane that are used to filter and change the color of studio lights. I use them on my flash to change the color. This one was with a light blue. I set the self timer and played around with different faces and ways of my hair hanging down. I thought this shot was great. My eyes look similar to the eyes of the cookie monster shirt I am wearing that my kids had gotten me for Mother’s Day. It captures the playfulness of being a kid. Super fun to do, and even after more than a year I still love this pic.
