These two photos have light and shadows in common, and also that pink bathroom in the apartment we were living in. Taken on the same wall at different times, these photos focus on the way that light and shadow can create composition. 297 is pretty obvious, it’s all about those blinds and the pattern the sun light creates on my face. The fact that my head is in front of where the light would fall if I hadn’t been standing there creates that break in the pattern, making the rest of the light fall to the left of my head. 298 is about the shadow instead of the light. It focuses on the shadow my face creates on that interesting pink wall, turned slightly purple from the app I used to take it. I enjoy both of these shots. Quality isn’t the greatest, but they are interesting.

“Art is a shadow of what a person is thinking… a small glimpse of what they hold inside. Little secrets, regrets, joys… every line has its own meaning.” ~Sarah, Los Cerros Middle School

One-hundred

It was a unseasonally warm day. The kids and I took a walk over to a near-by playground. I maybe thirty years old and the mother of two children, but I still love to swing. After I got my kids going, I did some swinging myself. I love this shot. I managed to get my legs and my complete shadow, while swinging and it’s in focus.

Ninety-six & ninety-seven

It was a beautiful day. I decided to go for a nice, long walk with my daughter. I took my camera along and took many, many shots. It was a good day for photos. I was standing in a large field trying to get a shot of a vulture flying around and looked down at my shadow. It was hard to get a good shot of it and I’m not happy with this one. Perhaps if I would have stood in a different place, so that it was cast in a different direction, it might have been better. The second shot I was just snapping photos of my feet as we walked back home. I kind of like that one. It has nice contrast and composition.

“You can’t stick it on with soap, Peter. It needs sewing. That’s the proper way to do it. Although, come to think of it, I’ve never thought about it before… um… sewing shadows, I mean.” ~Wendy-Peter Pan
