New Adventures

It has been many moons since I posted anything in my blog. Life has been uber busy. We moved 2 hours away to the foothills of Virginia. I finished my 1st year as an art teacher.

I had my 3rd child, sweet little Scarlett, on April 22.

My husband and I started a candle company; Dixie Candles: Southern Inspired Scents.

And finally I started a new Etsy Shop: Piedmont Peddler to sell goodies that filter through my life. Where I have strange things like a Haggadah from 1965 and a rare ink bottle I dug up in our yard.

Looking forward to my new endeavors and starting my 2nd year of teaching!

These three are once again a random bunch. I like 317. I enjoy the diptych and I like that I put these vertically instead of horizontal. These photos aren’t so great on there own, but together they make something interesting. I love sepia too. 318 is a terrible photo, but it was a terrible hair day, as the wonderful quote suggests. 319 was taken while traveling somewhere in the car. Not sure where we were going, but I like this simple photo. I like the black and white, the detail of the jean texture and that little corner of coat sticking into the frame with it’s shiny silver snap. Sometimes simple is so nice.

I just added tons of magnets to my Etsy Shop. These are all handmade by me, using original photos and drawings. Check them out!

Two totally random and unrelated photos right next to each other? Why not put them in a blog together. What the heck? I think I must have been at my lowest weight ever when I took 315. My jaw has never looked like that and has never again, sadly. This photo was taken in my old studio, shortly before we were being evicted. They closed the building to renovate it and everyone lost their spaces. No matter, it was time to move on. It’s a pretty craptacular photo, but it records one of the last times I was there. 316, on the other hand, I really like that one. Not sure what made me pose like that. I used an app on my phone to add the effects. I had been listening to Jerry Cantrell religiously and that lyric seemed to fit nicely. I really do feel that way. Like my body isn’t quite capable of all the amazing things my mind, heart and soul are screaming at me to do.

I love these photos! I love black and white, even if they are just crappy iPhone photos. These were taken while we were living in a tiny little apartment. There was a lot of negativity in that place, but there were also good times. I feel like these photos reflect both of those aspects of living in that space and environment. 313: I am looking out the window, pondering our situation. Thinking on friends that I had been reunited with only to find out they hadn’t changed over the years, and not in a good way. I really love this photo. For one thing it was a good hair day, haha. I also like the composition, the bit of bricks seen out the door and the light and shadows. They create just the right balance through out the image. 314: a diptych taken the same day as 313. It must have been the weekend. I was just playing with my kiddos, enjoying being with them. That is hard to remember since it is now summer time and they are driving me crazy. 😛 But I digress. I got to a point were I was taking so many photos trying to get a decent one that I would end up with more than one that I liked. That is why so many of these toward the end of this project ended up as diptychs and there might even be a triptych in there somewhere. They are more interesting anyway.

Both of these photos were taken on my first trip to visit the 21 acres my Dad purchased out in the country. All my life that man has been talking about buying some land, to hunt, fish, relax and to share with his family. He finally did! He couldn’t be more proud to say that he owns this land and I was excited to see it. I got to ride in the back of my parent’s car, just like I was a kid again. That is photo 311. The land is lovely. It has this sense of peace about it. I can’t explain, but everyone who goes there just feels peaceful. I enjoyed my first visit, hence photo 312. It even warmed up a bit and we didn’t have to stay so bundled up.

All three of these photos were taken on the same night. We had a night out without the kids. My very good friend Anna invited us to a party at her house. She has a huge upstairs that is completely open, has fancy lights, a bar and for the evening a beer pong table. Good times! 308 is under the awesome blue and purple lights. 309 was after some kind of drink. The little umbrella ended up in my hair. That is her cool shower curtain behind me. 310 is Anna and I after a few drinks. We have been friends since community college, which was… mumble, cough (15)… years ago. (Good lord where has time gone?) She is one of those friends that no matter how many months or years may pass without seeing each other we can pick up right where we left off.  To me that is what a soul mate is. A soul mate isn’t just one person who you have a lover/marriage relationship with, but many souls whom we spend many lives with through the eons. It’s easy to tell which people hold these souls, because you are drawn to them. Once a dialogue is started it feels like you already know them, because you do. No matter the passage of time you will always be welcome to each other because you are connected. That’s what a soul mate is to me. And yes I believe in reincarnation. Well this blog about my photos turned into something completely different. There’s nothing wrong with that. 🙂

Wow, this quote was chosen a looong time ago, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t fit the contents of this blog. 🙂

These two shots were taken at the same time. Man, I needed a hair cut and some conditioner. I’m not very found of either one of these photos. They both pretty much blow toes. Both were taken while on a walk with my kiddos. My daughter got hurt or was crying about something and that is how 305 came to be. I love that quote. The quote that goes with 306 is kind of funny considering how terrible my hair looks. Must have been a bad hair day.

Three hundred and two

I love these photos, especially together. Children do not stay little very long. When these photos were taken my daughter was so small. Now she is 3 going on 4 and the size of a kindergartener. I love having fun with my kids and I think these photos show just how ridiculous I am willing to go to make them laugh.

Three more random shots. 299 is of a necklace my Mom got for me for Christmas. It is a tree with a disk that has my daughter’s name on it. I need to get one made with my son’s name too. That way both my children will be close to my heart. I won’t mention the major cleavage going on. 300 was taken on another walk. I like how the shot is just my leg, makes it a bit abstract. Plus that crazy, dark shadow jutting out is pretty neat. 301 is a very similar shot to one I took at the beginning of the series with my actual camera. I like the original one better.
